'STRING_SIZE_TOO_LARGE' while accessing CDS via odata in excel, but works in web browser.

Hello all,

I added a new dec15 timestamp field to an existing cds view. When I try to access it via web browser using this new field as filter, it fetches the data. However, it gives 'STRING_SIZE_TOO_LARGE' while loading it via excel. It shows data preview just fine.

What could be the issue?

Further, I tried this using other machines. On my own machine, it gives the error 'property does not exists' in excel, while works in the browser.

Apparently, EXCEL doesn't handle DEC15 very well. I converted it to NUMC and it is now working fine.

Did you search the Web?

"STRING_SIZE_TOO_LARGE" "cds" "odata" site:sap.com

The first answer I get is:

Note 2601445 - Requesting large amount of data through the Gateway is slow and might end up with dum...

I did check this. This happens even with minimum data. Much more data was being fetched earlier before this new field was added. Also, this works fine in the browser. Data is fetched without any issues. Only fails in excel.
