SAP ERP Connectivity with Ariba via Cloud Connector

We have an ERP system which is accessible through VPN and Cloud Connector is also installed on ERP (dev System).
We cannot access the ERP system without connecting the VPN. Please confirm that Ariba/CIG will be able to access the Cloud Connector in this scenario or we have to move cloud connector outside the VPN environment.
