The topic could be a bit broad, so let's try to narrow it down a bit. Generally speaking, when we look at SAP ERP backend, this is where Basis & ABAP usually spend sometime trying to understand application behavior. And the sum of these will certainly reflect in the application performance and query latency.
Further more, I'd rather have a sip and give you a chance to advise on DB or platform you are using, before I put up more information that might not address your topic. The analysis if you are using Cloud platform services have a different perspective than if you are using a HANA on prem or a pure SAP SaaS.
