Hello Experts,

In the SAP Entitlement Management System (EMS), what exactly is the significance of "The Right" under "Maintain Basic Configurations"? I see that we use it in the Entitlement model but what exactly does this mean? Greatly appreciate any help in this, thank you!!

Hi Sally,

1. Entitlement Management is a separate application from S/4HANA. It runs on SAP Business Technology Platform (formerly known as SAP Cloud Platform). It has standard integration with S/4HANA but is separate.

2. Warranties have been designed with physical products in mind. From this point of view, warranties are fairly static, are active for a warranty period, but do not tend to change. Entitlements on the other hand are much more dynamic. If you think about SaaS, the entitlements may have a lifecycle of their own after the customer purchases a subscription, For example if a customer purchases 100 users for an application on a three-year subscription, there are many potential rules that related to the consumption of the associated entitlements, and many potential lifecycle events. For example the entitlement may apply only in a particular region or country, eg US, or it may be global. An entitlement may be available only via specific channels eg training can be offered online or via classroom, or via approved partners. The 100 users may be consumed within 3 months due to faster than expected growth, meaning the customer needs to purchase additional user licenses with associated entitlements, and at the end of the three year period the contract may be renewed for an additional period. SAP Entitlement Management handles all of these dynamic lifecycles which are typical of digital products, or digitally-enabled physical products, and which are not often found in the old models of physical products which are limited to warranty, support, etc.

Hope this clarifies the differences.

Hi Atmaja,

The Right is the means of expressing what the customer is able to do via the entitlement. Examples are:

- to run

- to use

- to access

You can configure your own rights also and you can make them as specific as you want, eg:

- to attend training

- to attend online training

- to access support 24x7

- etc

regards

Hello Ciaran,

May I consult with you on 2 questions?

1.If EMS resides in S4 HANA ?

2. What is the nuance between Entitlement and Warranty in SAP?

Warranty is part of contract, which is within the domain of entitlement.

If the claim is out of the warranty, it can trigger billing and revenue in EMS coverage.

Please kindly explain and rectify me.

Many thanks for your expertise.
