SAP HANA2.0 System Replication

Hi All,

We are currently upgrading our HANA DB (SDC) from 1.0 SPS12 to HANA 2.0 SPS05 Rev 52. The method which we have used is Backup/Restore. We have completed the Development system upgrade.

I would like to know how to setup the HANA system replication (HSR) with XS Advanced for HA & DR after we complete the upgrade in Production via Backup/Restore.

What are all the prerequisites which we need to check and the steps.

Hi Denys, my HANA DR provider is a SUSE pacemaker cluster with automatic failover with HSR. If I install XSA does this solution handle the HA/failover with XSA or do I need to make other changes? Currently using XSC but will move to XSA at some point. Any info you can provide is appreciated.

Hi Bryan,

The architecture of XS classic and XS advanced model is very different. Beside name and function, these models have very little in common. See the above-mentioned documentation for the details but assume you will need to make quite a few changes.

As per the SAP Note 2303243 - SAP HANA Multitier System Replication – supported replication modes between sites

Below is the table given for modes between sites

SYNC ASYNC SPS07

SYNCMEM ASYNC SPS07

As per my understanding replication modes between sites depends on the network bandwidth. I would like to know what is the best practice we generally follow in Hana 2.0 SPS05 for Multitier System Replication. Do we have any PROS and CONS.

Typically it is a decision about RTO/RPO: how much data are you willing to loose; how much time are you willing to be offline; and what's the budget.
