Not able to retrieve more than 500000 cells in Design Studio 1.6 on HANA view (via BI Platform)

Hello,

In the Design Studio Client tool, I have logged into BI platform and then connected the datasource to OLAP connection on HANA calc view. When I preview the default fields with more than 2 measures, I get the message "Result is too large; data retrieval by configuration (maximum = 500000 cells).

Based on the DS admin guide, in the Analysis Application Service Configuration, I have increased the number of cells from 500000 to 800000, but yet I get the same message.

Appreciate any advise.

First, can you pull that much data back with a direct connection to HANA? Does it work then? Next question - what is the business reason to bring back so much data? Remember before SAP recommended to only bring back 500 rows for a dashboard application.

Hi Tammy,

I have another question wrt to volume of data and native Hana. Assumption.: source contains a million record and expected volume to be dumped in target is ..lets say 50k. What is the volume limit of data a View can retrive from a table?

Hi Tammy,

Currently in production we are using Web Application Designer (WAD) + BEx query for a line item detail report. So now we are testing the same item details in Design Studio because design studio is supposed to replace WAD.

Other than direct OLAP connection on HANA, what are the other options to connected via Design Studio?

Thanks

Ann

Ann - an http connection is possible directly to HANA - see https://blogs.sap.com/2015/05/29/design-studio-15-connect-to-sap-hana-via-http/ - this would not require an OLAP connection. Is this something you could try?

Hi Tammy, I setup the HTTP connection, but when I try to login directly to HANA, I get the below error message. Any help will be great!

By using HANA HTTP connection, will I be able to avoid the 500000 cell limitation?

Thank you

Ann

Hi Ann - you may want to ask your HANA administrator for help with the HTTP connection

I don't know if you can bypass the cell limitation, but going direct is one less bottleneck (in my view) to send data through - direct would appear to be faster to me.

Does anybody know how we can bypass the 500000 cell limitation?

Thank you!

Hi Tammy, Cell limitation still applies via HTTP connection.
