Customer material info record is a useful master data object to influence multiple parameters on the sales order line item based on the customer and material. However, the major limitation that is with the CMIR is that it only works in the "Ordering party" tab field. If you have some customers using their own material numbers and some others that don't, it becomes a challenge for customer service to use this feature.
One way out is then to have an enhancement in sales order when the material number is entered to check for the material number against the CMIR and return back the SAP material number and then invoke the attributes of the CMIR record into the sales order. This makes effective use of CMIR less attractive to business users.
Is there a thought to take away this limitation with S4 HANA / have this as a customer improvement item ?
