Kerberos authentication over internet

Can we use Windows Authentication (Kerberos) to access EP over the internet?

Or, in other words, is there any reason why the Windows Authetication (Kerberos) would be used only for intranet scenarios?

We use EP 6.0 SP15.

On EP SP15 or NW2004s you can use Kerberos both for an external/internal portal. Usually, because of TGT requirements, and business/security policies of the company. You can check SPNegoLoginModule Configuration Options on;
