How can professional services companies benefit from SAP Product Carbon Footprint Analytics PCFA?

Hi,

I've just finished the 3 week OpenSAP course on Climate21 and learnt about SAP PCFA.

In my company we are looking at building some sort of a Carbon Ledger, to be able to track the CO2 emissions of all our activities. I think PCFA is a nice product but I think is more focused on Manufacturing Companies and not Professional Services ones. Am I correct in this assumption?

I've also heard about a new product called Carbon Accounting, but I haven't seen any documentation on it. Can anyone tell me where I can find this info?

THanks a lot

Regards

Isabel

Hello,

well, as Ralph outlined, there are two product, as there are two perspectives. On one side the corporate carbon footprint. To a certain degree equal to GHG Greenhouse Gas Reporting that is part of sustainability reporting (future solution STC Sustainability Control Tower). This corporate footprint is collected, calculated and visualized in SAP EHS Environment Management.

The FPM Product Footprint Management is going to provide the relevant info to calculate precisely on real data the footprint for individual products. For this is needed the inbound footprint information for purchased materials and products, the accumulated footprint from production that has to be added, plus in relation the footprint weight coming emissions that are not directly assignable to the products. Last section may contain emissions that were before accumulated in SAP EHS Emissions Management.

It all can be compared to cost accounting. There you have a general accounting for cost/revenue of a company. In parallel the cost of manufactured products have to be calculated. Here the principles is to allocate on the product as far as possible all cost that are associated to a product. The non-assignable cost are added as surcharge in relation to relevant factors. In same way, the product footprint will be determined.

In your case, you are interested in accumulating emissions that are related to the organization, plant, company. This is definitively corporate footprint and covered in SAP EHS Environment Management.

Hi Isabel, the milestone slide you attached is an older version. We will provide Product Footprint Management in 2021 which, similar to PCFM is focused on discrete and process manufacturing companies.

Hi Christian,

Thanks for your answer.

What we are after is a solution to monitor the Co2 emissions of all our activities, like a Carbon Ledger, but we are not a manufacturing company so I am not sure if SAP has a product that could really help us for that.

Have you heard of anyone using the FI module to track Co2 emissions or a way of doing it?

Thanks again.

Hi Isabel,

For Carbon Emission we have 2 products right now. Product Carbon Footprint as part of Climate 21 focuses on the carbon footprint of a product a company produces. It considers Scope 1,2 and 3 items relevant to calculate the carbon footprint of a product. Examples are raw materials and electricity consumed during production. In addition there is Emissions management from the EHS portfolio, which looks more from a generic Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions reporting perspective with potential shop floor integration via MII. I should think that especially PCF is industry-unspecific and can thus be used for professional services as well.

Thanks Ralph,

Yes I saw that, but I also saw this slide and it looks like SAP will be releasing a new product called Carbon Accounting this year.

I've registered to the Sustainability Summit in April and I'm expecting to see more about it there...but I'm wondering if we could already get a pdf on the subject beforehand.

Do you know anything about this?

Thanks
