Scripting error when starting Crystal Reports

We are currently running SAP Crystal Reports 2016 SP7 Patch 5. Starting about a week ago, we get a scripting error when we first start Crystal Reports. Please see picture. Anything that can be done to combat this?

Thank you for visiting SAP Community to get answers to your questions. Since you're asking a question here for the first time, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with: https://community.sap.com/resources/questions-and-answers, as it provides tips for preparing questions that draw responses from our members.

For example, you can:

- outline what steps you took to find answers (and why they weren't helpful)

- share screenshots of what you've seen/done

- make sure you've applied the appropriate tags

- use a more descriptive subject line

The more details you provide, the more likely it is that members will be able to respond. Feel free to also take our Q&A tutorial at: https://developers.sap.com/tutorials/community-qa.html

Should you wish, you can revise your question by selecting Actions, then Edit.

The best solution :

  • Disable the Start Page Online Resource by renaming the file start.html and offlinestart.html:
    1. Navigate to the folder corresponding to the version of Crystal Reports used:
      • For Crystal Reports XI R2:
        C:\Program Files (x86)\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 11.5\Start Page\en
      • For Crystal Reports 2008:
        C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Business Objects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\Start Page\en
      • For Crystal Reports 2011, 2013 and 2016:
        C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86\Start Page\en
      • For Crystal Reports 2020:
        C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win64_x64\Start Page\en
    2. Rename the file: start.html
      to: start_old.html
    3. Rename the file: offlinestart.html
      to: start.html
    4. Rename the file: start_old.html
      to: offlinestart.html
    5. Restart Crystal Reports.

This is a known issue that has been discussed here a number of times. If you're using Crystal XI or 2008, please see https://answers.sap.com/questions/13315734/crystal-report-xi-2-2008.html. If you're using Crystal 2011 or newer, please see https://answers.sap.com/questions/13316447/crystal-reports-2016-sp-3-script-error.html.
