Business Connector end of support

Does anyone know for sure the date that SAP will end support for BC? We are planning our projects for the next year and need to decide should we go to XI now or not.

Thanks

SAP have told that they are going to still continue supporting BC. You can confirm from this url:

https://media.sdn.sap.com/asug/biti03/1201_files/default.htm

Go through the URL and decide whether you wanna go with XI or not.

the official place to look for BC Support Date is note 571530 Availability of SAP BC. The note says that SAP will continue to support BC 4.6 and 4.7 with patches but no new version will be available. So if you have existing BC scenarios you plan to migrate, you don't need to hurry, doing a project next year should just be fine.

Hi Christine,

but in the BC case you need to remember one more thing...

JDK 1.3

from java.sun.com

J2SE 1.3.1 has begun the Sun End of Life (EOL) process. The EOL transition period is from Oct 25, 2004 until the General Availability (GA) of the next Java version, Java SE 6 (code name Mustang).

so even if SAP will provide any updates it may not

work with unsupported java right ?

and java SE 6 will probably be sooner than

end of BC support I believe

Hi Michal,

you're right BC only works with 1.3, however it is also supported on the IBM JVM and the JVMs of the other platforms it runs on (like HP UX). So it depends on how long they are going to support 1.3.

Anyway chances are that it will still run ok on a JDK that it ran on for the last couple of years. So if you already have interfaces there you should plan to transition them sooner or later but there's no need to rush into a project without proper planning. I'd just rather not create any new interfaces on BC...

Greetings from finally sunny California
