Wrong results with document splitting

Hello,

We are testing the document splitting standard functionality within our S/4HANA Cloud system and have some questions:

1. Segment can be entered manually, or will be derived from Profit Center. If no profit center is available, the default segment from the configuration settings will be used. Correct?
2. Document splitting on Profit Center should be active in order to get correct results from document splitting and zero balancing on segment. Correct?
3. If 1 and 2 are correct, why is document splitting on profit center level deactivated by default?
