Creating your own tax codes

I have a feeling that I know what the answer will be to this question - but figure I should ask anyway...

Is there any way (e.g. via expert config) that you can create your own tax codes in MTE?

I am thinking of the sort of scenario where you might be selling a bundle of goods, the component parts of which have different tax rates - so the bundle ends up with an 'average' tax rates. Perhaps the 'bundle' is also managed as a single SKU rather than a sales BOM (this is a real world example I have seen for multipack products in the CPG industry).

Can this situation be handled in MTE - and if so how? In the past, I would have created a new tax code with the appropriate 'average rate.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Clare

    Hi Clare,

Time depended taxes will allow the creation of additional tax codes too.

This can be done at the moment for Germany and it works as self service 100%.

It will be enabled to all the available countries but this process will take some time for sure since the topic is complicated and there are multiple country specific requirements/ tables to be adjusted.

    Hi Clare,

is this legally allowed ? are you selling components individually or the final product?

Why isn't the bundle split according to the relevant tax into multiple SKU's ?

This scenario is not supported officially as far as I know.

For the tax code creation setup there are preapproved templates that can be used under SAP Activate Roadmap in certain countries.

See preapproved template 61 here :

    https://go.support.sap.com/roadmapviewer/#/group//roadmap/IMPS4HANACLDENMGMT/node/901B0E6D3F441ED78DE8F084DE1F8E7B:

This will only cover the FI part of the configuration. I'm not sure how will you create tax reports for this tax bundle...

Another option is to activate ( if the system is not migrated already ) time dependent taxes.

    See more details here :

    https://help.sap.com/viewer/0fa84c9d9c634132b7c4abb9ffdd8f06/1908.500/en-US/c8e03dd9701d45e681f5a58e7b75d184.html

This enables the creation of additional tax codes in FI. The only country supported in the release 1908 is Germany but will be enhanced in future to other countries.

If this is a legal requirement it needs to be discussed with your success manager/ product expert and raised as impediment.

    • Lucian,

      Thanks for the response.

I believe that this is legal - I have certainly seen businesses doing it.

The time dependent tax info is useful in the longer term - not having read the detail, I had assumed this was just rates, but if it opens up codes too, then that may be helpful

      Cheers
