Alternative Itemgroup or multiple BOM

We have BOM for our products where there are multiple alternative components. For example in a BOM, there are 5 alternatives for component A and 7 for component B.

The choice of the component depends on customer choice. However variant configuration is not in scope.

Therefore how should we setup the BOMs for such products.
