How to rent assets?

I am trying to rent an asset to a customer (e.g. a company sporadically gives technical equipment to customers).

My idea was to open a sales order (Order type OR) and add an item with a billing plan to that order. The item would be administrated with serial numbers and the each serial number is connected to an asset. But when assigning an asset to the serial number in the app "Change Material Serial Number" and trying to save, I am given the error message "Asset Assignment is not supported in the cloud".

Other idea is to use scope item 2T3 ( which has not been activated in my system so I don't have a way to test it.

Any thoughts?

    Hi Robin,

I think service management is what most closely matches your requirement. Service Management is a seperate line of business that (in my opinion) kind of blends the functionality of professional services and order to cash.

So with the service contract you can have a billing plan to bill periodically. You can also link the service orders being carried out with the assets being used to carry out that service etc.(there's integration between 'Asset Central' and S/4HC Service Management for that).

I link some service management recent content for you below, and you should also check out scope items 3MO, 3D2 and 3NI

We use rental process. We create an asset from Stock where the depreciation takes place. The Asset has a nr.

Then we create a Material representing the Asset using Material Type LEIH (Returnable Packaging) and put 1 on stock.

This Material we can Deliver through a normal OR Sales order. When delivered, it is visible in Stock with a special Stock indicator.

The invoicing is done with a SERV type material (rental fee)

Once the Rental material comes back, we can receive it into stock again.

Hello Robert, we have discussed that process as well. Unfortunately, you cannot set an end date in the payment plan in the sales order nor can you link the material (serial number / equipment) with the asset. The cloud doesn't support it. Sure, it is possible to note the asset number in the serial number description and vice versa.

    Hello Andrew Saunders ,

the Service Scope Items are now activated. I was following the best practices and also watching the video you sent in your link.

    - Beeing in the service contract position details, I am missing the areas Price Details, Patries Involved, Dates, Organizational Data and Transaction History. Basically, I have no way to maintain/change prices.

    - When adding a service order, I cannot link it to the service contract. The field is grey and doesn't let me make entries.

The following roles are assigned to my user:
