Profit and Loss Reporting

Hi

Is it correct that it is not possible in the S/4HANA Cloud to create a financial statement version that displays a correct profit and loss structure, including subtotals?

So far the YPS2 financial statement is up side down, starting from the results for the year and drilling down to revenue.

In most companies you would want a P/L option that is more like:

- Revenue

- COGS

= Contribution Margin 1

- Fixed Cost

= Contribution Margin 2

- Financial Cost

Result

Is this really not possible in S/4HANA Cloud?

I appreciate the fact that the reason why YPS2 is reversed is probably due to the fact that it links to semantic tags and embedded analytics, but still..

Thanks

Hi Thorben,

that is not correct. You can create or change the financial statement versions according to your own requirements.

You probably should create your own version if the predelivered models are not covering your needs.

Please keep in mind to assign semantic tags to the new FSV items:

Hi Thorben,

I think this is like the topic of left- & right-driving countries .

Just because you do things differently it doesn't mean that the others are wrong.

There are just different ways to look at the same numbers.

But this app doesn't offer that amount of flexibility and maybe it should to meet all demands.

Try to use the Customer influence process. https://influence.sap.com/sap/ino/#/campaign/1169.

If this is supported by multiple customers it could be introduced in the product later.

Lucian

I understand what your issue is - and the Financial Statement Version is (as it has always been) a bit restrictive, in that because it is a hierarchy, there is only so much that you can do with subtotals etc. (and creating other totals that aren't simply a hierarchy node, for example EBITDA) is hard if not impossible to do)

You can of course easily work around this by creating a custom report that structures the totals and subtotals as required.

Hi

Agree it is not flexible at all and it is a shame now that we have the data model sorted out. I really believe this is a somewhat critical issue, that a proper P/L cannot be presented, and that we have to create custom reports. But thanks for you view on the topic.

To be fair though, this isn't a new issue - and ECC is the same.

The report is a one off task, and then it's done.

Completely agree - my point is just that simple P/L reporting should come out of the box 🙂

In ECC you could run the financial statement report, and click a button to turn the financial statement up side down to the correct format:)

thorben.hald ...facing same 'issue' so would be interesting to know how you resolved? I am staring down a custom CDS/Query or SAC solution. I assume that YPS2 was not accepted in the standard representation?

Thanks

Kris

Hi Lucian

Thanks for the answer.

I am aware of how to create new financial statement versions - that is more or less the same process as for on-premise.

However I am not able to find the way to recreate what I described - ie. a financial statement that has subtotals calculated top down, and not bottom up - if that makes sense.

For example - in my current financial statement I have two nodes:

Revenue

COGS

Under these I have assigned the accounts that we use for revenue recognition and the COGS accounts used by the system when we do delivery.

This works fine - but in my financial statement I have made a new node called CM1.

Lets assume that we have revenue of 1.000 and COGS of 500, then I would want a financial statement report that would show:

Revenue: 1.000

COGS: 500

CM1: 500

This does not seem to be possible. I can do it the other way around by having this structure:

CM1: 500

Revenue: 1.000

COGS: 500

Meaning that if I create Revenue and COGS as subnotes to CM1 then it works, but not the "correct" way by calculating from the top and down
