Changing set of books assigned to company code

We have 4 company codes and separate set of books. Minimal data has been recorded in 3 company codes. (less than 50 transactions in each). We would like to have all company codes use single set of books in future, but system functionality does not permit changing set of books to company assignments after transactions have been recorded. I am unable to deactivate the default set of books either. Are there any workarounds available?

I am thinking of reversing all transactions in the 3 company codes with less data and end dating the company codes in organizations structure. Then I can create new company codes which can be assigned to the single set of books that we want to use and recreate the transactions. Has anyone done this successfully?

Dear Dwarkesh,

You may refer to KBA 2137781 - Error Message : Company ABC: Already Assigned To A Different Set Of Books. You can add new sets of books to a company if there are no journal entries in the existing set of books of this company. The reason is to prevent inconsistencies in the further document processing.

The cleanest and consistent solution here is to create a new company with the multiple Set of Books and migrate all the existing data from the old company over to the new company. In the Community there is a great Blog from Thomas Meder going through all the steps and considerations. https://blogs.sap.com/2018/06/07/merger-of-companies/.
