Up-to-dateness and function availabiltiy between Cloud and On-prem in 2-Tier world

Hi,

in a 2-Tier world we have (often) onprem and cloud system. The puplic cloud system getting updated on a regular basis automatically. Every function get’s newest functionality.

As we know from customer projects it is not very realistic that customers updates their on-prem system every year to newest version.

So let’s assume the customer wants to use a function, integration scenario, API, etc. which will be shipped with Cloud-1808. Is it mandatory to have on-prem 1809 version in place (which consist all functions of 1711, 1802, 1805, 1808) or is it possible to individually install specific functions in on-prem without the need to update on-prem with complete 1809 package.

Regards

Martin

Hi Martin, this question needs to be answered case by case, as it depends on the particular scenario a customer would like to use.

- If the S/4HC 1808 function is basically encapsulated in the cloud, and does not require any functionality of specific new API on premise, there is no issue. No upgrade of the on-premise version would be required to use this new scenario.

- If however, the scenario stretches across cloud and on-premise applications and requires new APIs or new functionality on premise, an upgrade would be required.

- There are and will be scenarios, where new functionality is provided in the cloud but established interfaces would be used to integrate with the respective on premise functionality. Here, again, no upgrade would be required.
