Additional Application Server related.

Hello guys,

I've been assigned to install an additional application server to already built server with only one primary (and ascs) server.

So total of 2 APs.

Heres the problem, i have been asked to investigate on how to install it first as a standalone server.
We have one application server (ascs and primary).

So now we want to add one more additional application server.

The os for the additional application server will be given. So now i have to make an investigation on,

  • is it possible to install additional application server ( AAS ) without recognition from the ascs? (Based on the past project manager, this is doable)
  • if it is possible, how do i connect the PAS and AAS (other method beside sap group logon)

We cant straight away install and connect it straight away to the primary because of some reasons, so we have to install it first, make some operation check on the server.

After that only connect it with the primary and ascs as secondary (additional application) server.
I wish some expert will kindly enough to guide me

Hi Osawa.

1. Could you share your PAS OS / DB version details? & AAS OS version?

2. For any installation you have to refer to the SAP installation guide, refer to the link select the OS / DB & SAP version and SAP Note 680617

https://help.sap.com/viewer/nwguidefinder

3. After installed the AAS, it is part of SAP SID, without PAS, AAS will not work and start the instance, what is the meaning of only connect the aas to the pas?

Hi Osawa.

You can add the N number of App servers on your primary SAP system(Depending on the primary system resources).

1. Yes, you can install the additional app server on your existing system.

2. Depending up your OS / DB on the PAS, during the SWPM process it will connect the DB, for this you can check the SAP installation guide.
