Can Parent Material and BOM component have different plant?

Dear all experts,

I have below business case:

Plant A - Finished Goods Plant (Material A is only extended under plant A in material master)

Plant B - Raw material Plant (Material B is only extended under plant B in material master)

I am going to create a BOM by using T-Code CS01 under plant A. I enter material A as BOM parent material under plant A and material B as BOM component. After I entered the material B, the system prompted error message to say "Material B not maintained in plant A".

Is it a must that both material A and B have to be extended to the same plant before creating the BOM in CS01? Thanks.
