HANA based systems, backup concept

Hi all,

I could not find much information and best practicces for HANA backups.

We have HANA systems on vSphere virtual servers.

The question is - do we need HANA DB backups (let's say in /backup) when we already backup

the whole VM, and we successfully restore it????

If we don't make DB backups the database is not very happy, red messages, and the logs become quite a mess.

On the other hand I see we can use Veeam plugin to make HANA backups through the backint, but then we don't have a whole VM backup.....

What is the right concept??

Thank you!

Hello Grigorov,

Separate backup management for HANA is a must-do.

You may either use backint to configure 3rd party backup solutions that is supported by HANA , or you make plan for file system backups.

If I rephrase it , you have two backup destinations in HANA : backint pipes and filesystem (/backup or whatsoever) . You may go for either of one.

Thanks,

Bitan

Thanks Bitan!

So I will leave my colleagues to continue backing up the whole VM,

and make my own HANA backups. OK. I actually planned to do just that.

Filesystem is better for me.

Thanks again for the advise!

P.S. OMG I have so many accounts....
