Large data footprint for OS/DB Migration

Hi,

We're figuring out a way to migrate an ERP landscape with 20TB oracle data on AIX platform to Linux environment.

Of course there is a way to do it by using export/import (R3load) method but we doubt the downtime
is not acceptable.

We've done some research and found several related tools/methods related :

1) Migration Monitor (w/ SWPM) with split

2) Distribution Monitor

3) For Oracle only : Cross Platform Transportable Tablespace (XTTS) <-- supported by SAP during migartion ?

I'm wondering how many alternatives there are, and anyone have experience of TB-grade migration using
the methods listed ? How about the downtime ? or SAP have official service for this kind of customer ?

Thanks

We have executed 26+TB on oracle to SUSE/HANA in less than ~40 hours using exp/imp. This is achievable provided the hardware sized properly, parameters are optimized with right split etc.,

in case downtime acceptable is < say 4+hours then opt for SAP paid service which is MDS (Minimized Downtime Service)

Hope this helps.

Arunkumar,

What a stunning act !!

What kind of tool you used ? only SWPM ? Do you run export / import in parallel ?

Can you share your hardware (source system) spec ?

Thanks

Hi,

For Oracle it is certainly good to check O2O migration for this purpose. It requires a paid service, but it is certainly the fastest option. It replicates the data during runtime, then switches over as if it were a stand by database.

1508271 - Oracle Lifecycle Migration Service (formerly O2O/Triple-O)

For your third question, yes TTS is supported for migration operations, so that is certainly a good idea too. It can be used as a backup/restore operation.
