SAP Hyperledger Retirement

Dear Blockchain Community,

I’ve noticed that the Hyperledger Fabric is no longer available for trial accounts, being scheduled for decommissioning in March 2021.

Does this imply that SAP Cloud Foundry will not contain a blockchain service, us having to rely to a solution provided by a hyperscaler? If so, how will this solution replace the old Fabric Hyperledger - is there any literature on this topic?

I am about to train external customers in SAP’s blockchain solutions and preparing training materials for a workshop with services already on a deprecation path adds little value to our customers. Could you please offer me some guidance and/or documentation regarding this transition?

Hi Luisa,

indeed all blockchain services are retiring from SAP trial platform and are no longer offered. hyperledger fabric is an open source project and can always be implemented off the hyperledger.org website:

also, SAP implementation is on an older version 1.4 while the project is at 2.3, so it has also been a decision not to upgrade from SAP. still, i consider the retiring solution as very intuitive and ready for integrating with other APIs. i've been told that, internally, it can still be offered, and something can be done if there's customer demand. there was one beta service that offers a glimpse into the future of blockchain at SAP, but unfortunately, it has been withdrawn from the public evaluation at the moment:

a couple of things come to mind about SAP's approach to blockchain. it has changed. it is no longer marketed as originally designed due to leadership and staffing changes, if not lackluster customer demand or licensing concerns. maybe, others can chime in and share their blockchain experience with SAP. i'm all for bringing hyperledger fabric 'back'.

Happy blockchaining with SAP,

greg
