Is BRFplus + DSM still relevant?

What is the best practice solution for managed Business Rules in an on-premise S/4 setup without any cloud capabilities?

BRFplus is the technology already in widespread use, but we also want the central management and distribution features offered by DSM. My concern is that this is a new S/4 implementation, and DSM has been around for a while with very little new information available, and it doesn't feature on any roadmaps since 2017. Is DSM still considered the best approach for on-premise?

I am familiar with the various Business Rule technologies offered by SAP (BRFplus, DSM, CP Rules, HANA Rules Framework), but I last worked with these topics a few years ago and the available strategic documents I can find are either well out of date or cloud-native.

Last I knew HRF and CP were on the way to being merged, and Cloud Platform can link to BRFplus rules, but we're a site that does not use any Cloud features at this stage. So is DSM still a best practice solution? The lack of any current information is a little concerning.

Yes, DSM is very much still relevant in OP. From a functionality point of view it has not undergone any changes thereby the public documentation remains untouched.

Thanks, I've also been reading and researching some more on the topic and it looks like the situation from 2017-odd is unchanged. If you have any sort of cloud then CP is the way to go, because it can also deploy rules to OP systems. And I see it as unlikely that CP Rules will ever get an OP version, so DSM is the best choice for this scenario. Have I summed this up correctly?

Yes, DSM is still available with the OP release, we have been continuously updating the support information with every new OP release.

Are you saying the service marketplace is not up-to date with this information?

Did you face any issues while using DSM?

Hi Shweta,

Thanks for your input, much appreciated. Sure, I understand it's still available, but does this merely mean it's OK to continue using it, or is it still the number one solution for OP? Or is there something else we should be looking at for a greenfield implementation? We do not currently have DSM, and are investigating costs and options at this stage.

Unfortunately I don't have access to Service Marketplace, so I have just been looking at the publicly available information. I found some roadmaps from 2016 and info from 2017, but blogs and info from SAP has dried up since then and everything else says we should be in the cloud.

Thanks,
Mike
