Hello,

we are planning to migrate our ECC6.0 EHP4 system from current AIX environment to X86 platform, at mean time, upgrade oracle from 11.2 to oracle 19. database size now is more than 10TB, since downtime is quite critical for us, therefore export and import is not possible, do you have any suggestions how we can achieve this and reduce downtime to minimum? thanks a lot.

Requirements are:

1. Migrate 15TB ERP system to X86 platform new hardware

2. OS change from AIX to Linux (maybe Redhat 😎

3. DB: Oracle upgrade from 11.2.0.4 to 19 (maybe 19.8)

4. Downtime minimum

any comment is appreciate.

Best regards,

Fresh

Hello Fresh,

If a small downtime is the most important requisite, you might want to check this:

1508271 - Oracle Lifecycle Migration Service (formerly O2O/Triple-O)

Please note that this a paid service as explained in the note, but it is certainly the best option for a small downtime.

Hi,

I recommend the usage of Transportable Tablespaces. And with that I mean you install the 11.2.0.4 Oracle Software in the new hardware and use the TTS (Transportable Tablespaces) to copy the data (15 TByte). Once this is done, you can upgrade the DB to 19c. The upgrade itself is very quick compared to 'moving the data.

Other may have other way in their 'pocket'. I am also looking for any other opinion.

Hi Janos,

Thanks a lot for you advise, we heard about something like XTTS and OGG, we are considering what's the difference between those and which way to go.

XTTS is just the "transportable tablespaces". Either you XTTS or TTS, as far as I know.

OGG is Oracle Golden Gate. I don't have any experience with this. What I learned is that, using this Software/Solution of Oracle you need a certified Oracle Expert who executes this service for you. From SAP perspective, this is not supported. Not that we don't want to support it, but since this is provided by Oracle Corporation, we at SAP can not help with any of its problems/queries.
