Migration of Data Flow from 3.x to 7.x

Hello Experts,

At the time of migration,is it possible to keep 2 version(3.x and 7.x) of the same data flow in a system?

If I Don't migrate the data-source then the transfer structure will be there as well as newly created transformation .

I will keep two Info-Package, one will load data to the target Info-cube and PSA with transfer structure (3.x) and

other Info-package will be there that will load data to only PSA through transformation(7.x).

Shall I face any issue in loading if I keep two version at a time but will use the 7.x version?

I want to keep the 3.x version for backup purpose for the critical flow like inventory

Thanks,

Ipsita

    Hi;

Some comments (although migration is always recommended):

"At the time of migration,is it possible to keep 2 version(3.x and 7.x) of the same data flow in a system?": Yes

"If I Don't migrate the data-source then the transfer structure will be there as well as newly created transformation .": Yes but I don't know if you can load from the same source to the same target (I think so)

"I will keep two Info-Package, one will load data to the target Info-cube and PSA with transfer structure (3.x) and

other Info-package will be there that will load data to only PSA through transformation(7.x)".: 1 one IP is enough. The DTP will load into those targets not 3.X.

    Hope it helps

    Hello Experts and Ricardo,

My question is , if I don't migrate the data source , use the Info-package with setting "Only PSA"(which load data to only PSA) and then use DTP to load data from psa to Info-Provider.

Will this flow work properly ??

    Thanks,

    Ipsita

    Hello Experts,

I have not migrated the data source and created one transformation from 3.x data source to Info-provider.One Info-package I have created for it with the setting "Only PSA Load" and then created a DTP.

The old 3.x flow is also there which is loading data through, data source to Info-source by a transfer rule and then Info-source to Info-provider by a Update rule. One Info-package is there with setting"PSA and Data Target load subsequently"

When I am executing the Info-package with setting "Only PSA load", it loading data to PSA but in the monitor screen of this load transfer rule is showing,But it should load data from r/3 side to only PSA without any transfer rule.

Is my Info-package with setting "Only PSA Load " is loading data properly or not ?

Why transfer rule is showing do you have any idea?

    Thanks,

    Ipsita

    Hi Ipsita,

The transfer rules will stay there until you delete them or you migrate your dataSource.

I thought this was what you intend to do (keep both data flows in 3x and 7x).

    Is your DTP working ?

    Regards,

    Frederic

    • Hello Frederic,

My DTP is working properly.Loading data to PSA to target with newly created transformation.

But the newly created Info-package (with setting "Only PSA Load") is using the old transfer rule and Update Rule while loading data to PSA .

Do you have any idea why it is behaving like this ?

      Thanks,

      Ipsita

My DTP is working properly.Loading data to PSA to target with newly created transformation.

A DTP only loads data from the PSA to the target.

But the newly created Info-package (with setting "Only PSA Load") is using the old transfer rule and Update Rule while loading data to PSA .

An infoPackage with "PSA only" only loads the data to the PSA (there is no transfer rules involved).

    Is it an issue ?

If your DTP is still able to use this PSA, I don't see the problem.

    Hello Frederic,

you are saying ,even the transfer rule and update rule are executing at the time of loading data, any rule will not effect any data. It is only loading data to PSA as in the info-package is checked with "only PSA" Setting(3.x ).

It will not effect the data in PSA as in 3.x ,the transfer rule and update rule are used at the time of loading data to target....right??

The PSA data will be the same as R/3 side no rules (of transfer rule and update rule) will be applied to PSA.

    Thanks,

    Ipsita

    Hello Ipsita,

Not sure to understand the first part of your answer.

The PSA data will be the same as R/3 side no rules (of transfer rule and update rule) will be applied to PSA.

Right, the PSA should be the exact image of the data extracted (no BW transformation is applied). This is the extraction layer in the LSA methodology.

    Hello Frederic,

The info-package is behaving like 3.x version as data source is not migrated.

In 3.x Info-package loads data to PSA as well as to the target Info-provider at the same time using transfer rule and update rule(In 3.x version).

Now my question is if I check the Info-package with setting load to "PSA only " then the transfer rule and update rule will not be applied to any data as it is not going to any Info-provider ....right??

    What's your opinion ??

    Thanks,

    Ipsita
