WAD: Avoid refresh when input ready comment is checked

Hi all,

We have a input ready query with a comment column in a Web Template (WAD 7.0). We use "characteristic as keyfigure" with a direct update DSO to store the comments. I have the requirement that the user should get informed if a comment exceeds 250 characters.

I know that there is already a standard error message which opens in Analysis for Office with "The text xxx on characteristic zcomment exceeds 000250 characters" before saving. I need the same behaviour in the Web Template. In Web Template we have to click a button (e.g. save) to get this error message and the problem is that the comment resets to its original last saved text. I would like to have the behaviour that the user gets the error message and the possibility to adjust the comment herself, otherwise her entered text is lost. Is it possible to avoid a refresh of the comments in the Web Template?

I was also thinking of other possibilites, e.g. to restrict the limit of the input ready field to 250 characters or to do the data validation via JavaScript. However, I am not sure if this can be achieved.

Thank you for your inputs!

Kind regards,
Steffi
