Cross-tab table inserting story calculations in the middle of table?

Hi

In a story, I have started a cross-tab table. In the GL account row, I have inserted several model members (11) and then several story calculations (12). All of the entries have been appearing in the table in the order I have entered them. When I try to enter a new calculation, it is being inserted in a random spot in the middle of the table instead of at the bottom? I have not been able to figure out why it is doing this? Does anyone have any advise?

Thanks,

Dennis

Hi Vadim - here you go, thanks in advance. Dennis

We are new to SAC and have been basically trying to recreate a P&L that was in the ECC environment. It seems like it should be do-able but we have been hitting a lot of snags.

The report is a basic net income P&L that:

  • -Uses combinations of GL accounts and cost centers
  • -Compares plant to actual

NOTE - We have downloaded the SAP Finance business content and have been trying to reference it when building a prototype story.

In our model, we have included:

GL Account

  • -In this dimension, we have included
  • oAll of the GL accounts
  • oAs many hierarchies and formulas as possible, in this dimension, to build the P&L components (we could get down to Net Sales). The P&L components below net sales include combinations of GL accounts and cost centers. We could not figure out how to include the cost center dimension into a member within the GL account dimension
  • §Any P&L component, like Selling and Marketing or Admin expenses, that included a combination of GL accounts and cost centers, we thought we could create as a story calculation later

Cost Center

  • -This dimension includes the cost centers and their hierarchy

Profit Center

  • -Only uses one profit center

Company Code

  • -Only one company code

Version

Date

Time

Then, we created a story starting with a cross-tab table structure that we were going to use to recreate the P&L.

In the story, we started adding the model members and story calculations. Everything seemed to be lining up but when we tried to enter a new story calculation for (‘Variable Margin’ (Net Sales less Variable Expenses)) it keeps placing it in a random spot in the middle of the table instead of after the ‘%Variable COGS/Net Sales’ row? Up to this point, the row measures/dimension have been added in the order they were entered into the row

The ‘Variable Margin’ is:

  • -A calculated measure
  • -It includes ‘Net Sales’ (which is a member that comes from the GL dimension) and ‘Variable Cost of Sales’ (which is story calculation (calculated measure))

Hi Dennis

What do you mean with "I have inserted several model members (11)"?

You mean 11x measures coming from the model. Right?

If it is the case then let me inform you that i have already crossed a similar issue before.

From my observation, within a standard table, the rule is:

a) First comes model measures that are coming from you datasource (or model).

b) Secondly comes the measures created by yourself (story calculations).

Having said this, my personal workaround to fix problem is NOT using model measures at all, but using ONLY story calculations - even with simple call/invocation to some original model measures - by doing this the order of the measures within the table is respected to whatever order you need. Does it make sense for you?

I hope it helps you.

Hi Armando -

Thanks for the response. I am worried that might be the answer. I wish I could find some documentation that explains why it behaves like that. Amazing that we just can't drag/drop the rows where we want them.

Let me give your recommendation a try and I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again,

Dennis

Hello Dennis

How are you?

Quick question: Did it worked for you the suggestion provided here?

Hi Armando -

So, I logged an incident with SAP because I found OSS note "2950028 - Members in table are displayed as alphabetical instead of the custom order originally selected in Set Filters panel on SAC story" which was logged in July but still was under investigation. I got a response this morning and its really amazing how silly the correction is (assuming that it will hold). In edit designer, you can right click on the column header and custom sort

I was able to move the 'variable margin' to the correct spot, save the story and it is looking good so far:

Here is the url they provided

Thanks for following up.

Amazing Dennis!!!

I was using my own workaround but who would figure out that by applying a custom sorting in the Account measure would solve this mystery.

Thanks for sharing this one Dennis!

All the best.
