Hello,

The company that installed Business One with SAP Hana on a Suze server is telling me that the server must be rebooted every day in order for Hana to work properly.

I'm very surprised has I have Linux server that works perectly for year(s) without reboot.

Can you confirm you have the same recommendation?

Thank you

I don't see a reason why you should reboot a Linux server every day.
We are running several HANA databases on SuSE Linux, and only reboot in case of hardware or operating system maintenance. No problems.

But what will happen if you don't follow your installing company's advice?
Sooner or later there will be some kind of problem. (Which computer system would run without problems forever?)
Then, if you tell them about the problem that may or may not have been caused by their installation work:
They will for sure lay the blame on you, not following their advice.

Look for a more competent partner perhaps?

Hi.

Really? And what about a DR (disaster recovery) simulation? What's your experience between HANA and SUSE?

Thanks,

Regards

Hello,

Today I received a confirmation from my partner :

Pour vous répondre sur la question du redémarrage du serveur HANA : en l’état actuel de la fiabilisation du système par SAP, 99% du temps il n’y a pas de problème, mais le 1% du temps restant, où se produit le problème, n’est pas prévisible.

Donc pour en éviter les conséquences nous continuons à préconiser de planifier un redémarrage régulier du serveur.

SAP travaille néanmoins toujours à fiabiliser encore d’avantage la solution sur ces points.

Which translate to

To answer the question of restarting the HANA server: in the current state of reliability of the system by SAP, 99% of the time there is no problem, but the 1% of the remaining time, where the Problem, is not predictable.

So to avoid the consequences we continue to advocate to schedule a regular restart of the server.

However, SAP is still working to improve the reliability of the solution on these points.

Frankly when you buy a system that is so important for your company, the last thing you want to ear is that 1% of the time it will fail. If it was like that in plane transportation, I would be already dead :=)

I cannot beleive this can be approved by SAP.
