HI,
This error occurs when BO is not able to find the correct driver for the database.
Make sure you have the supported 32bit driver on your client machine and 64 bit drivers on the server. And in case of ODBC, both the DSN names should be exactly same(mandatory).
For the supported drivers, please check the PAM guide.
Suggestion: In IDT go to Window-> preferences ->IDT-> secured connection-> change the middleware to both local and server and test your connection. To see which one fails. So you can know which is causing the issue.

I have the same problem: "The following database error occurred: (CS) "Specified RDBMS is invalid : MS SQL Server 2008" . For information about this error, please refer to SAP Knowledge Base Article 2054721 on the SAP Support Portal. (IES 10901) (Error: INF )".
Operating System: AIX (UNIX)
BO Version: 4.1 SP9
Did you find any solution for the issue?
Thanks!
