Opt-out SapMachine when installing newer SAP GUI Java

Hello,

It is stated on annoucement blog and on user manual that SapMachine bundled on installer is used for 64-bit environments, but for space (and selfish) reasons I want to use OpenJDK runtime already available on my environment.

Graphical installer didn't have any flag to opt-out. Manual also doesn't mentions any CLI flag or Response File parameter documented to opt-out SapMachine.

I know that common user doesn't bother for things like this, still I want to know: is there a way to opt-out SapMachine while installing or I will have to do manual post-install steps to delete unused files (from that runtime)?

Hello Thales,

Letting the installation of OpenJDK and OpenJFX (not part of JDK 11) up to the customers resulted in many support cases and negative feedback.

So the decision was made to have everything in one place.

In addition to the reasons given in the blog mentioned before, the advantage is to be able to have urgent bugfixes in SapMachine included, which are not available that fast in the OpenJDK. This for example is the case for the issue described in https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/2937866 .

Best regards

Hello Rolf-Martin, I understand this decision because I also had problems setting up OpenJFX (something related to javafx.properties file).

Thank you

Hi Thales,

I couldn't find any option. I guess the blog is clear when it says:

"...

  • SAP GUI for Java is running with exactly the same Java version and build it has been tested with.
  • It is no longer needed to manually set the Java runtime to be used for SAP GUI for Java in case other Java applications require a different Java runtime.

..."

If you still need this (not sure whether selfishness is a valid reason), then you should raise a support ticket under BC-FES-JAV.

Cris

Hi Thales,

In time, I couldn't find any answer regarding your question in the following SAP Notes:

2511185 - SAP GUI for Java: Requirements for Release 7.50
2511822 - SAP GUI for Java 7.50 Release Notes
1617725 - SAP GUI for Java FAQ and problem solving

Hello Cristiano, I still had some hope for a switch because for 32-bit "a preinstalled Oracle JDK 8 is required", but already confirmed that is not possible.

Thank you for mentioning those notes, somehow I missed the FAQ one on earlier searches.
