Update content of SAP HANA XS Advanced Runtime failing on database revision upodate

Hello Experts.

I am attempting to upgrade our Hana Database Revision to version 2.00.052.00.1599235305.

The upgrade of the Database portion looks to complete successfully, but errors out at the "Update content of SAP HANA XS Advanced Runtime" stage:

And completes as:

Reviewing the logs it seems that the failure occurred due to "Failed to upload file "product-installer.mtar.part.0"", I am however not sure if I can ignore this error and manually perform this step in XSA, if what would the steps be?

Alternatively is there a configuration that could be causing this ? for now I have reverted the database to prior performing the update.

attached is the log file that is generated - xs.txt.

Thank you

Sunny.

Instances = 0 .

You should set instances property to 1 for xsexecagent in the daemon.ini:

[xsexecagent]
instances = 1

Hi Sunny,

Note that this is community support. For production systems, contact SAP Support via the regular channels (support.sap.com).

The log file mentions the system is running RHEL 7.8 (March 2020). According to SAP Note 2235581 - SAP HANA: Supported Operating Systems, RHEL 7.7 is the latest (highest) supported 7.x release (besides 8.0/8.1).

The issue does not seem related but you might want to check first if this issue is reproducable on a supported RHEL release.

According to the log file and print screens, the database upgrade was successful. The XSA environment is only loosely coupled with the database server (see below for latest revision) and the XS advanced update also made it almost to the end but stumbled over the Product Installer app, (web GUI for XSA ALM). This is not an essential component as you can install and update applications with the 'xs install' command as well but obviously we would not want to see any installation errors.

Unfortunately, the log does not provide any more information than that the upload of two files failed:

ERR : Failed to upload file "product-installer.mtar.part.1": /hana/shared/IXH/xs/controller_data/fss/438e64f1-3651-4f7c-8e90-1c8c5d42cfa2/91dbd0ee-4f67-480e-a3f1-f89878d64360
15:46:31.198 -  ERR    : Failed to upload file "product-installer.mtar.part.0": /hana/shared/IXH/xs/controller_data/fss/438e64f1-3651-4f7c-8e90-1c8c5d42cfa2/91dbd0ee-4f67-480e-a3f1-f89878d64360

You could check whether these files actually exist on the file system. Maybe something went wrong during the file extraction?

A possible workaround is to update the database server to rev 52 (skipping XS advanced) and update XS advanced to the latest rev9 update (July 2020).

Hi Denys van Kempen,

Unfortunately this is not a production system,but our sandbox system, so our Basis team are reluctant to create an incident unless its deemed necessary.

The RHEL version update was an error the someone had upgraded it to 7.8 from 7.7 while I was testing, however the same error still occurs on 7.7, also with following your suggested steps.

I do see that /hana/shared/IXH/xs/controller_data/fss/438e64f1-3651-4f7c-8e90-1c8c5d42cfa2/91dbd0ee-4f67-480e-a3f1-f89878d64360/ exists but does not have any files in it, so this is most likely the root cause.

I now thinking that as XSA is not really being used at the moment if its worth uninstalling it and then reinstalling it. XSA is something that we are planning to start using come next year.
