BW4HANA - Near Line Storage Sybase IQ 16.1

Hi Experts,

If any one of you guys have worked with Sybase IQ (NLS cold storage) with BW4HANA? If yes, than I would like to now details on below point.

1) Any challenges faced with Sybase IQ for BW4HANA while doing DTO?

2) Would like to know about Report performance if we are reading data from cold storage (Sybase IQ)?
Will the time taken for Reporting from Sybase IQ be similar to normal BW system (basically non HANA BW system ) or will it be more?

3)What DB storage size is supported with 32 core of Sybase IQ License? (Eg. DB size 8TB, 12TB ... )

4)Any idea about how many users licenses are supported with 32 core of Sybase IQ License?

Thanks in Advance!!

Hello indamm01,

1.) No

2.) basically less than factor 10 in the millisecond range

3.) 20TB

4.) the NLS License is not depended on User only of CPU, and with 32 CPU you can do really a lot.

see Blog - https://blogs.sap.com/2016/10/12/sap-nls-solution-sap-bw/#implementation and the Document - SAP First Guidance – SAP NLS Solution with SAP IQ

Thank you roland.kramer for the quick response,
Could you also please help answering with below query as well

1) With 32Core of SAP IQ that comes along with SAP BW4HANA license, how many TB of data can be comfortably handled? In any typical scenario (avg. use). 20TB is max as you said. So how much TB data it can handled comfortably without having any impact to performance.

2) As Sybase IQ is also a columnar storage. Do you have any rough idea that approx 10 TB of Oracle BW data, will be how much TB in Sybase IQ 16.1? Will it be same / less / more ? I have heard that Sybase IQ takes lot of space for Usage,Logs etc..

Hello indamm01,

1.) SAP IQ can store up to 128 PB and I doubt you will reach that limit. the performance is linear. even with 32 CPU you will not have to chance to decrease the performance at some point with the usage of SAP-NLS with SAP BW/4

2.) then you heard definitely wrong. SAP IQ compresses up to 90% of HANA data and the rule of thump for SAP HANA as follows (values for compressed data):

ORA - HDB - 3:1
DB6 - HDB - 2:1
MSS - HDB - 1:1
