Installation of server and client components of BI 4.x on the same physical machine

Hi,

We are going to proceed to an upgrade from our SAP BO environment from 4.2 (SP7 Patch 2) to 4.3 release. We will start on a sandbox cloned from an existing environment.

Checking the notes we have noticed that this 4.3does not allow "Installation of server and client components of BI 4.x on the same physical machine". Despite not being a recommended practice we use to do that (reasons are another history).

Therefore my question is: should be uninstall the existing 4.2 Client tools on the server before the inplace upgrade of we can simply leave there (not using client tools of course, as versions will be different)?

Regards,

Alfons

I've just finished installing Dev and QA 4.3 systems with both Server and Client and I haven't found any issues with running and of them.

Because these are installed on new servers, the one issue I've run into has to do with dates getting changed when migrating objects from the old server to the new one.

When using the PromotionManagementWizard for migration, you can control whether or not you keep the timestamp of the object.

see "LCM commit mode" in "PromotionManagementWizard.ini" file

anytime...

also, If you are using LCM_CL, just add -Dcom.businessobjects.lcm.commit = (LEGACY / KEEP_TS) to the command

Curious.

KBA 2014953 states that "In BI 4.3, Side by side installation of “SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform Server” and its “Clients” is NOT supported. So I assume that it might work on user risk. We we won't do it this time 🙂

Thx in any case,

Sandbox first is the right decision.

Sure, sandbox always!

It is better to uninstall the client before upgrading to BI 4.3, then you are on the safe side

Hi,

We have uninstalled completely the client and therefore started the side-by-side upgrade. It looks fine.

Thx
