Workflow Start from a Fiori App | HANA XS

Hello Experts,

I am having HANA XS as the backend and Standard SAP system for Frontend where I can access all transactions like se80 etc...etc.
My requirement is that the user as an Admin Inputs a future date in the Fiori App, so when that future date approaches a reminder mail should be sent to set of users. Is it possible to use workflow or any other solutions in SAP?

If workflow, what Step type should be used to send a reminder mail as the future date approaches?

It is posible to use a simple send mail step with a delayed start to send the mail. But I see no direct benfit for using workflow to do this no one has to aprove this and sending is automatic (see workflow mistakes part 2), you can do this just as easliy by saving the data to a table and using a timed job to send the mail (using class cl_bcs for example).
