DevOps Tools on SAP Cloud Platform

Dear expert

If I want to use DevOps tools on SAP Cloud Platform, is there any recommended SAP tool?

Also, can I use the tool for free just by subscribing to Cloud Platform?

Now, I would like to implement a side-by-side extension, but if it is not possible to develop only with SAP Cloud Platform and I need to use DebOps tools from other copanies, I think that it's more effective to use another Cloud Platform(eg:Azure).

However, I'm not familiar with SAP Cloud Platform services in the first place.

Please tell me what I need to know when developing.

Best regards,

Daisuke

Hi Daisuke,

Your question sounds a bit mixed up. First, you need to know what SAP Cloud Platform (SCP) services can do, then if you need process automation through DevOps Tools then start working your evaluation which DevOps tools work for your case.

SCP is SAP's solution for building Applications in the Cloud. It is also the platform to use for extending SAP solutions.

To automate the process of building and deploying applications in SCP, there are various DevOps tools available in the Market like Jenkins and Azure DevOps just to name a few. Azure DevOps comes with a trial account where you can use it for evaluation.

I have a blog post series using Azure DevOps:

https://blogs.sap.com/2020/06/08/devops-cap-ci-cd-using-azure-devops-part-1/

https://blogs.sap.com/2020/06/16/devops-cap-ci-cd-using-azure-devops-part-2/

I hope that it can give you an overview of how can DevOps tools and SCP work hand in hand.

Dear Jhodel,

Thank you for your information.

Does SCP mean that it's more dedicated to development than other PassS Solutions(eg Azure)?

Also, DevOps functionality needs to work with solutions outside of SAP.

Hi Daisuke,

First of all, Azure is both IaaS and PaaS, while Azure DevOps is SaaS. The names can be confusing, but so is SAP product names. While the "P" in SCP is Platform which equates to PaaS solution, the answer is - Yes, the SCP is more towards building applications. But it has become SaaS as well as SAP, over the years, started converting their on-Prem products into cloud products.
