stop back order if order qty is greater than available stock and fill with material substitution

Hi Gurus,

when the order qty is greater than available stock , then there would be a back order for remaining qty

Basically we would like to add a substitute material for remaining qty instead of back order ...

Is there a way to where we can substitute the material for remaining qty in the sales order ? how to achieve that ?

is it possible via material determination ? or

is it possible via coding ? .
