Preparation checks for S/4 HANA upgrade

Hello,

In the S/4 HANA upgrade guides,it is said to perform SI checks & Custom code migration too. These steps are done in S/4 HANA conversion.

Why is SI check or Custom Code migration required in S/4 HANA upgrade? We don't do them in ECC upgrades.

In what phase does SUM actually perform the SI checks ?

    Hi Rashmi Tripathy

"Why is SI check or Custom Code migration required in S/4 HANA upgrade? "

SI check performs two things. Relevance check to determine the SI relevant for the system for assessing the functional and technical impact of the upgrade/conversion. Consistency check to evaluates the issues to be solved on the relevant items before upgrade/conversion.

SAP keeps updating SI catalog (uploaded in report /SDF/RC_START_CHECK before execution), so the check is required even in case of upgrades. (It's not relevant for FPS updates within same release of S/4 HANA.)

Custom code analysis/migration is not a mandatory thing in S/4 HANA upgrades but is a continous process to keep the codes in compliance with the upgraded version.

SUM performs this check twice (though with different job names RUN_S4H_SIF_CHECK_INIT and RUN_S4H_SIF_CHECK_EXEC. (I have recently performed S/4 HANA 1709 to 1909 upgrades, hence able to share the screenshots).
