information about setdatasource to a dataset

setdatasource to a dataset does it require the existence of the physical tables (in the database) that served to design the crystal report? Im am using cr 2014 with visual studio 2017 and sql server? Can one safely delete the tables from Sql server and the report remains working? Thanks.

Yes, CR keeps a copy of the table structure in the RPT file.

If you change the DB structure you need to open each report in CR Designer and manually Verify Database to clean them up is the safest way.

So as long as the field maps the same in your new DataSet it should work.

Depending on the field types depends on if it works or not...

CR SDK has an auto-field-mapping function, if it can't match the field types or names it just deletes them from the report which usually breaks the report.
