Counter number in KNVP table

Hello,

I am trying to change partner number in sales view.

When i change manually the counter field is blank in knvp table, if i manually change parnter in xd02 there is no counter value (counter value empty)

But if i do it through xd99 ,the counter in knvp table changes to 1

Why this is happening.I doubt will it impact in latter stages.When i see in XD03 after mass change there is no physical visibility of counter number ,i mean there is no duplicate values,but why should the counter number update after mass change.

Generally, if you add a new partner function for which already there is another partner function exists, then, in that case, the partner counter KNVP-PARZA should get updated. For example, if you have one Bill-To and you would like to add one more Bill-To, then, in that case, the counter value would be filled with 01
Is that not happening in your case ?

In my case instead of partner number X i am replacing Y.

Still the counter value gets updated,when i manually add in customer master it is not happening.But through XD99 it is happening as such.

Here i am not adding one more partner,i am changing the partner number.
