Substring a characteristics and display this as free characteristics

Hi Folks,

I have requirement wherein I am getting Trading Partner(CHAR 6) on the infoprovider level. Now I have to put this characteristics as a free characteristics and on drill down it shows show only the 1st 4 characters of the characteristics(Like If I have 2177KK in Infoprovider, then I only want to see 2177 on drilldown). Also this should not be part of default layout instead to be given as free characteristics . My reports have time structure across the column and keyfigure structure as row.

If anyone comes with such requirement earlier who can throw some light.

Please note I have to achieve this on Bex only and no changes in modelling.

Hi;

You can create a navegational attribute in you CHAR, populating itself with something like a formula LEFT(CHAR,4).

Flag it in your providers and add it in the query.

Hi Koen,

I should enable short text if you don't want any aggregation occurring.??? Didn't get you. Its a Partner company code field which is CHAR 6 and have values like F_DEZZ, F_NLKK and F_CH10 but use want to see it as F_DE, F_NL and F_CH( i.e only first 4 chars). Also this should be part of free characteristics in Report.

on query designer level you cannot change it!

Yes I thought of this, but as I told you in my original post,business want this to be only at the query level. Thats the only chnallenge 🙂
