Maintenance schedule / Updates of HANA Cloud

What is the maintenance schedule for HANA Cloud ? Are there time-frames where users cannot access their instances ?

How to apply updates to HANA Cloud ? Can the users decide themselves on which updates to apply and when ?

Maintenance information would be communicated in a note. I have not seen one yet on this topic. Will ask around.

As HANA Cloud runs on Kubernetes you would not expect any downtime at all. Add a new pod, drop the old one. And indeed use whatever version is available. But this is not documented yet. Will ask around.

Note that it is vacation time in Walldorf.

I found a partial answer to my question on help.sap.com

You can ask for a version upgrade through a service request.

A new version of SAP HANA Cloud is released every three months. The version is referred to by QRC (quarterly release cycle), the quarter and the year in which it was released, for example QRC 01/2020. Every version can be used for up to six months. Afterwards, an SAP HANA Cloud instance is automatically upgraded to the latest available version.

Thank you for your answer, I checked the roadmap and note, but couldn't find any information about maintenance periods (downtime) for HANA cloud.

My current understanding is :

- 0 Down-time
-Upgrade whenever you want, skip all upgrades if you want..

But I am not sure yet whether this is correct.

Hi Simon,

I asked a similar query last month, into the JAM-forum group and received below answers from colleagues:
===
HANA Cloud product is planned with quarterly releases. You find more information on roadmap features and releases:
https://roadmaps.sap.com/board?PRODUCT=73554900100800002881⦥=CURRENT-LAST

Also, SAP Note 2845360 should be updated regularly with known issues, limitations, documentation additions, and documentation corrections for SAP HANA Cloud & data lake releases.

For second question, I have heard about a new feature which must be announced next month (Aug-2020) where you will be able to see if any new HANA-Cloud update is available and decide to upgrade or skip.

Best Regards,
