Historical Data Migration from ECC to S4 Hana Extended Edition

Greetings.

Need to know the possibility of migrating historical data from ECC to S4 Hana Extended Edition (green field implementation). Its understood that through migration cockpit, only master data and cut over data can be transferred.

Apart from selective data transition service offered by SAP, is there any technical approach to migrate data from ECC to S4 Hana Ext. Ed.?

    Hi Anton,

Customers can use the Migration Cockpit to do the migration from ECC to SAP S-4HANA Cloud, extended edition.

There are many blogs that provide information about this. Please check this one from Sybille Lackermeier- which contains a very good overview. https://blogs.sap.com/2017/07/05/starter-blog-for-sap-s4hana-migration-cockpit/

Today, you can only migrate historical balances for GL accounts https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/2587192 however for all other historical transactional data, we recommend to have a separate location (BW) so you can review your historical data as migration to S/4HANA Cloud, extended edition is not possible.

    Hello Anton,

Complementing what Marco mentioned, the scope of S/4HANA Migration cockpit is the same regardless of the S/4HANA solutions. This tool has been created to load new master data and open items, and extend some master data. For example, if you need to add an additional purchase organization into an existing vendor.

The tool has not been created to:

    - Make mass Updates to existing master data (e.g update currency on vendors)

    - Load historical data

    - Be used as an Interface to frequently load data

    - Migrate customizing

The migration cockpit team has published this useful FAQs document: https://www.sap.com/documents/2020/03/2c4c6691-8a7d-0010-87a3-c30de2ffd8ff.html. On page 9 and 18 you can find more detail about Historical Data.

    Regards,

    Jose M.

    Hello Richard,

As responded by Marco and Jose, Migration Cockpit (LTMC) is the preferred way due to the flexibility and validations it provides while migrating historical data.

However, SAP also provides an alternative approach for large volumes of data especially if the source system is ECC. SAP System Landscape Transformation Server (SLT) is a trigger-based realtime ETL which can handle high data volumes efficiently. You may assess this approach based on your needs. The following link provides more information about SLT.
