Installation of Netweaver 7.5 on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 15

Dear experts,

I wanted to install Netweaver 7.5 AS based on Oracle 12c1 database on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 15 SP1 for development purposes.

What I have done so far is installing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and then the Oracle database engine. After that I have upgraded to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications and all went well.

Then I tried to install Netweaver using the SAP Installation Wizard, but I am stuck as every path to files I provide for the SAP Installation Master does not seem to work for me. Could you point me to the right direction? It's the first time I am installing Netweaver so if possible don't imply anything.

Thanks and BR,

Federico

Hi Federico,

Can you share a screenshot from which point in SWPM you are facing the issue?

Also mention the DVDs you already have downloaded.

Cris

Hi Cristiano,

Thanks for your answer, but I believe I didn't quite get to the point you are mentioning. I am following the guide for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications and I'm currently stuck at page 34, where it asks for the location of the SAP Installation Master. If my understanding is correct, here I should provide the folder of the installation media, but I couldn't find clearly the DVD media that suits my case. I have made several attempts downloading media from here and selecting Linux as OS filter and Oracle as db filter, but could not clearly find the DVDs as many people mention on the web.

Thanks,

Federico

Hi Federico,

As far as I know, there is no longer "SAP Installation Master" DVDs.
It seems that the SUSE documentation is no accurate.

Please read KBA 1825724 regarding SWPM installation process.

I usually install SO + DB, then use SWPM to install the SAP system.

Hello Cristiano,

Thanks for your answer. I downloaded the .sar, the SAPCAR utility and unarchived the former. However, when providing the folder where I unarchived the .sar, I still get the same error message:

"The location has expired or does not point to an SAP installation master.

Please check your input."

Do you have any other idea? Should I complete the installation without the Wizard?

Thanks and BR,

Federico

Hi Federico,

I would reach SUSE support about what they expect to have there.

From SAP perspective, you should use SWPM to install a system.

You can read more about it here.

Hi Cristiano,

Sorry for double commenting, but I went on and now I am stuck during the SPM Parameters Definition phase. It asks me to provide the Java component for NW750:

and I believe I downloaded the right component, which is here -> 51050829_2 (NW 7.5 Java based SW Comp.s 2/2). However, I am getting this error:

I both tried to download the files from the Linux VM I am using, and from the Windows host machine. Now my doubt is that I possibly use the wrong (or incomplete) package.

Thanks and BR,

Federico

Hi Federico,

It looks like there are missing packages or wrong packages.

I would download them again.

Hello Cris,

Doing as you suggested resolved the issue. However, now I am stuck here:

However, if I follow the link to download the missing DBATOOLS.SAR I cannot understand what the file should be, as there is only the SAPEXE.SAR with such version (602).

Thanks in advance,

Federico

Hi Federico,

The image from your last comment is broken, so I cannot see where you got stuck.

Hello Cris,

It's here, where it says that SAPEXEDB.SAR and DBATOOLS.SAR are missing:

Thanks a lot,

Federico

Hi Federico,

Please follow:

https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/softwarecenter

-> Support Packages & Patches
-> By Alphabetical Index (A-Z)
-> K
-> SAP KERNEL 64-BIT UNICODE (I am assuming you are using Unicode kernel)
-> SAP KERNEL 7.53 64-BIT UNICODE

Now, it looks like you are using LINUX ON X86_64 64BIT, so you need to select this in the first dropdown.
In the second dropdown, you will have #DATABASE INDEPENDENT, for the files you already have.
Then select ORACLE, as it seems that it is the database you have mentioned.

You should download:
- DBATL740O11_42-80002605.SAR
and
- SAPEXEDB_602-80002605.SAR

Then put the files in the same directory as the other SAR files and repeat the installation phase.

Hi Cris,

Thank you, that did it. However, the installation failed due to having not enough space on disk:

I have given the VM 150 GB which was the max for me. I have seen in some guides that 200 GB should be the minimum, some others do not give a specification. However, it wasn't reported in the preliminary checks. By your experience, do you believe that the error may be caused by something else instead?

Thanks for your patience,

Federico

Hi Federico,

If this is only a simple test system, with no actual volume of users, then you should consider disabling database archiving, that is enabled by default and consumes a lot of space.

In my VMs, I turned off the feature using:

sqlplus / as sysdba

shutdown immediate

startup mount

ALTER DATABASE NOARCHIVELOG;

ALTER DATABASE OPEN;

In total, my VMs would not use more than 100GB in my HD (only NetWeaver, with no SAP applications).

Cris

Hi Cris,

Well I'd like to setup an ME/MII test installation on top of NW, so I'd probably have to change my plan to go on a local VM.

Thanks for your help,

Federico

Hi Federico,

If you have finished the installation, then consider closing this thread.

If you have another issue, then raise a new question.
