Hello Chris

The major challenge that I see in your requirement is that you cannot use planning strategy 52 at the MRP Area level.

If you try to manually created independent requirements in transaction MD61 for your MRP Area using a requirement type like VSE, you will get an error saying that only stock requirements are allowed for MRP Areas. This is standard and it cannot be changed, since you cannot have any special stock segment under the MRP Area.

Cartano, thank you for your response

according to this SAP help document

https://help.sap.com/saphelp_470/helpdata/en/81/470a58ddab11d1b55b0000e82de178/frameset.htm

VSE are a valid requirement type within a MRP area, but then it seems to directly contradict the last bullet point.

even then is only VSF work strategy 40 could work...

back to the other question is the strategy group one of the settings within MRP groups and if so would it override the strategy group in the material master?

Hi Chris

This document clearly states the following:

- You cannot plan with preliminary planning materials in the MRP area.

- Only consumption customer requirements with planned independent requirements are allowed: VSF requirements with KSV and VSFB with KSV.

I agree that the information provided in the link is kind of misleading, but when you try to create a PIR with requirement type VSE at the MRP Area level you will clearly see the error message, which is hardcoded into the program.
