Migration and S4H upgrade from CAL1 instance to CAL2 instance

Hello CAL community

We are currently running a CAL-AWS instance (since 2015) with following configuration:

CAL-Instance1_CURRENT with SID=A4H: SAP enhancement package 7 for SAP ERP 6.0 on SAP HANA 1.0 SP9.

We've maintained master and transactional data which we want to use also under S4H-relase.

Now we'd like to copy the data of CAL-Instance1_CURRENT and make an upgrade to the following SAP level:

CAL-Instance2_NEW with SID=A4H: SAP S/4HANA 1909 FPS01, Fully-Activated Appliance, SAP HANA 2.0.

The prerequisite is that CAL-Instance1_CURRENT should be offline only for a short time (overnight

for instance for export) as it is used productively for development.

We are considering the following migration approach from CAL-Instance1_CURRENT to CAL-Instance2_NEW:

1) Prepare target instance

1a) Create new instance CAL-Instance2_NEW with SID=A4H.

1b) Delete DB-Hana tenant A4H.

1c) Install standard ERP 6.0 EHP7 with SID=A42

2) Restore single-DB to multi-tenant-DB on hana according to

https://blogs.sap.com/2017/05/08/restore-singledb-on-122.08-to-multi-tenant-db-on-hana-2.0-sps01/

2a) Backup of database of SID=A4H to AWS share (see https://docs.aws.amazon.com/sap/latest/sap-hana/migrating-hana-to-hm.html)

2b) Restore singleDB A4H to multi tenant DB A42. Start A42 instance in AWS and logon to migrated SAP ERP 6.0 EHP7.

3) Upgrade from ERP 6.0 to SAP S/4HANA 1909

3a) Upgrade A42 from ERP 6.0 to SAP S/4HANA 1909

3b) Backup tenant A42 to disk

3c) delete A42 DB tenant.

3d) restore A42 backup to A4H DB tenant. The system is now migrated from ERP 6.0 to S4HANA.

4) Later on decommission of instance CAL-Instance1_CURRENT

Is this migration approach supported and feasible or do you suggest another migration procedure?

Thanks for your feedback.

Kind regards

Serge
