SAC Naming Convention

Hi,
is there any recommended naming convention available for SAP Analytics Cloud? (e.g. how to name dimensions, models, data actions, etc.)

Regards, Thomas

SAC is pretty relaxed about naming conventions. There are only a few restricted characters that need to be taken into account. See the online help: Import and Prepare Fact Data for a Classic Account Model | SAP Help Portal or Import and Prepare Fact Data for a Model with Measures | SAP Help Portal under the section "Data Quality Considerations".

That being said, a few things to watch out for:

1) You can't rename models or dimensions once created. You can change the display name of a dimension in a story but not the actual dimension itself in the model. So it's good to think ahead and establish a methodology and naming convention you want to apply globally before you start to create your objects so that you have some kind of consistency.

2) Also keep in mind that if you are linking to other products such as using BW import / export or Live Data connections then the other product may have restrictions that SAC does not have, so you need to keep this in mind or plan for some kind of translation service. For instance, in SAC you can have trailing spaces in dimension member names, so you can have two distinct dimension members "UK" and "UK ". As many source systems do not support trailing spaces this can cause problems if not identified.
