Hi Paul,
This is the concept called 'Forecast Consumption by Sales'. Demand Elements in SNP are Forecast, Sales Order & Dependent Demand. Your Original Forecast is as-is data of DP. But, Remaining Forecast is the reduced forecast by sales.
eg: original forecast = 100; sales order = 20; Then remaining Forecast is 100 - 20 = 80.
Your Total Demand is Remaining Forecast + Sales Order. This is the basic definition I'm trying to help you with. In original, Forecast Consumption is vague concept. Following Document might help you to explore the topic further.
