SAP Analytics Cloud with BW Live Connection

Hello,

I have a requirement to create Dashboards and tables based on the BW Live connection using queries but without any model setup (since this is a Live connection). As per my understanding I can create Stories, directly based on Data Source (BW queries) which directly creates a model. In case i have n number of queries which will lead to creating n number of models. I have a requirement only for reporting purpose so what is the best approach in this scenario.

Thanks for your support.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Pranav,

Indeed we can only have one BW query linked to one SAC model (Live connection)but we do have below following option:

1- As your scenario has live connection so we should leverage the BW semantic and model layer to integrate different KPI’s in one BW query.

2- SAC BW live blending with multiple BW query.

https://blogs.sap.com/2019/11/05/sap-analytics-cloud-blending-information-part-1/

Please refer these series of blogs from Ingo which will help you decide the above options in case of BW Live connection.

Thanks

The connection is generic and points to the backend BW system, Model has a 1:1 mapping to the query. You can only create the Model based on a connection and one model cannot have multiple queries in it while using Live data connection.

I agree the model doesnt add much value in case of a Live connection, you could try to create an enhancement request and see what SAP says.

Pranav, If you just want to analyze the data you can use data analyzer directly against the BW system without using a SAC model, see below.

https://blogs.sap.com/2019/09/04/data-analyzer-ad-hoc-query-analysis-for-bw-queries-with-sap-analyti...

However if you want to use a query as a source for an object (chart, table etc.) in a story you will have to create the model using the Live data connection.

Thanks for the quick response Deepu.

In this case when i select 'Use a datasource Live Data connection' under Models section, this will result in creation of 1 model for 1 query. If i have more queries, it will result in more models which in that case is not the best practice. Do i create a model first in that case and then do a Live connection?
