Discover Host in AWS: No Hosts Found

Hi everyone,

We have a rather peculiar case on discovering hosts in SAP AWS using Virtualization Manager adapter:
- on the First AWS environment, when we tried to discover hosts, it said "no hosts found", even the SAP LaMa EC2 instance itself. No detection traces error found.

- for testing purpose, we setup another AWS environment, a different AWS account. Created a Cloud Manager adapter in LaMa using this IAM user (so we have two adapters now), and it successfully discovered the hosts within this environment.

Manual detection using SAP host agent / IP address will obviously works.

Here are my systems:
- On cloud systems on AWS EC2
- SAP LaMa 3.0 SPS14
- Configuration on LaMa done as per SAP help documentation and SAP Note 2574820, which means we configured all AWS adapters, tested the connections, and assigned IAM user policies.

We couldn't find any errors generated from SAP Note 2899692.

Also tried to compare settings between the two AWS environments but couldn't find any differences.

Hi Bobby,

some questions to understand the issue better:

You wrote "Manual detection using SAP host agent / IP address will obviously works."

-> Which method of detecting the hosts are you using? Did you use method "Virtualization Manager"?

Did you check the following logs for error messages:

- NWA > Troubleshooting > Logs and Traces > Log Viewer > change to view developer traces

- /usr/sap/hostctrl/work/ASUI.log

- /usr/sap/hostctrl/dev_saphostexec

And I assume SAP Host Agent and SAP Adaptive Extension are both on the latest release?

Thanks for the additional info

Best regards

Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

Detection using SAP Host agent and Virtualization Manager are two different things.
The former will require saphostagent installed and system powered on, while the later will scan the (AWS) landscape and list all of the instances, irrespective of installed binary or host state.
I said that manual detection using SAP Host Agent method worked with no issue. However this method is not what we sought.
The problem is detecting using Virtualization Manager, which so far resulted with "no hosts found" message.

yes, we used latest release of SAP Host Agent and Adaptive Extension

And yes, I also checked the logs already.

Thank you,
